TEAM PALOOKA’S MIKE MASSENZIO WINS BIG AT UFC 136

PRESS RELEASE: October, 10 2011

Houston, TX — At UFC 136, middleweight Mike Massenzio made his Team Palooka debut with a gutsy, come-from-behind victory against former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Steve Cantwell. The win represented what Team Palooka is all about: heart, determination, and a “never say die” attitude. The Massenzio-Cantwell bout kicked off the night, and definitely got the crowd going. Both fighters headed into the bout desperately needing a big win in order to keep their position with the UFC, and the New Jersey-based Massenzio came away with the “W.”

“Winning this fight, it’s a great feeling…one of the greatest feelings of my life,” says Massenzio. “I’ve been through a lot over the last few years, and I’ve been through a lot in my career already. After a fast start, I got hit with some major injuries. I came back against Brian Stann, which was a very tough first fight, and we got ‘Fight of the Night.’ The Soszynski fight was tough, too. Against Cantwell, I took a little bit from him in the first round, then he caught me good, and I had to deal with that. But I was able to hang with it, and I came back. It was a great experience.”

While waiting for his next bout, the 185-pounder will continue to train with his team at AMA Fight Club in New Jersey. As far as who is next on his list, Massenzio is leaving that in the capable hands of the organization.

“I’ll fight whoever the UFC gets me. I feel good about being able to be in there with some of the best and hang. To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. So whatever they decide to do, I’ll go with it. I’m all about heart, and I’m always going to go out there and fight with everything I’ve got, every fight.”

While we don’t know who Massenzio will face next in the Octagon, we do know what is next for him outside the cage. This Thursday, 10/13 and Sunday, 10/16, Mike will be appearing at the Team Palooka booth (#349) at the New York Comic Con. He’ll be there in order to sign autographs, interact with the fans, and promote the new “Joe Palooka” comics being released!

“It’s an honor that Team Palooka wants to have me as part of what they’re doing. It’s great that they have interest in my career. I’m hoping that as they rise, I rise at the same time. And I’m really looking forward to being with the fans at Comic-Con. Come on out and come say hi…it’s going to be awesome!”

The news MMA comic book fans have been waiting for was recently announced: the comic series made its world premiere with its first issue last week when “Joe Palooka” issues #1 & #2 became available for purchase for the first time anywhere. Fans can get their hands on the comic at http://www.Palooka.com/, and hard copies of the issue will follow in early 2012.

A special 13-page FREE-VIEW is also available simply for signing up with an email address on http://www.Palooka.com/, and fans can also take advantage of a unique offer on “Joe Palooka” issues #1 and #2, which are available together for the low price of only $1.99.

The “Joe Palooka” comic series tells the story of Joe Palooka, an MMA fighter who competes in “Legion of Combat,” which is a sister comic publication. “Legion of Combat” will feature Joe Palooka and top MMA stars including “Suga” Rashad Evans, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, the Blackzilians, Brendan Schaub, and the Miller brothers in team matches between fighters representing countries such as the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, Russia, Japan, China, and other nations.

CAMOZZI OUT OF SHARK FIGHTS 20 MAIN EVENT

Thursday, September 15, 2011
(PRESS RELEASE) — Shark Fight Promotions announced that Chris Camozzi is out of the main event at Shark Fights 20 on October 15 in Laughlin, Nevada. Shark Fight Promotions has released Chris Camozzi out of his three-fight contract to allow him to fight for the UFC. This is the third fighter under contract with Shark Fights that has been recruited to fight for the UFC this month. Josh Neer (31-10-1) was recently acquired by the UFC after committing to fight in this past weekend’s Shark Fights 19 main event against Romario Da Silva (19-9-1). One week prior, UFC signed Shark Fights prospect Joseph Sandoval (6-0) to their new bantamweight division. Shark Fights maintains its position in developing the best young talent in the MMA.

“Shark Fights is becoming THE place to fight. The UFC has already signed five fighters that Shark Fights had under contract this year. I’m glad the UFC is watching us and we wish nothing but the best for Chris,” states Bud Brutsman, Shark Fights Executive.

Strikeforce veteran Artenas “Machine Gun” Young (7-3) and unbeaten top contender Clifford Starks (6-0) will replace Camozzi and Lucas as the headline for Shark Fights 20. Young has been on a tear since joining Shark Fights, beating rising prospects Kyle Bracey (4-2) and Elvis Mutapcic (9-2). Starks has finished three of his fights by TKO all in the first round. “It doesn’t matter if I fight first or last, I am always the main event. Now its just official.” said Young. “Headlining Shark Fights 20 is a dream for me, but it’s going to be a nightmare for Starks, cause I’m putting on a SHOW at his expense.”

The co-main event will feature undefeated superstar Jared Downing (7-0) vs Bellator veteran Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (17-3). Shark Fights 20 will be the biggest test of Downing’s career as he takes on the much more experienced Karakhanyan. Karakhanyan has fought some of the best Featherweights in mixed martial arts such as Patricio “Pitbull” Freire, Joe Warren, and Bao Quach.

Shark Fights 20 will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at The Edgewater Casino Resort in Laughlin, Nevada and will be broadcast via tape delay on FUEL TV beginning November 4, 2011. SHARK FIGHTS 20 ANNOUNCED FOR OCTOBER 15th IN LAUGHLIN, NEVADA

Thursday, September 08, 2011

(PRESS RELEASE) — Shark Fight Promotions, in association with Richard Steele Promotions, announced their fight card for Shark Fights 20 at the Edgewater Casino Resort in Laughlin, Nevada on October 15. Shark Fights 20 marks the return of former Ultimate Fighter and UFC veteran Chris Camozzi (15-4) after his controversial win over Joey Villasenor (27-9) at Shark Fights 15. Originally ruled a draw, the New Mexico State Athletic Commission later overturned the decision and gave the victory to Camozzi. Now Camozzi wants to prove the decision wasn’t a gift from the judges when he squares off against dangerous striker Matt Lucas (14-2). Lucas has won four of his last five bouts by first round TKO.

In the co-main event, Strikeforce veteran Artenas “Machine Gun” Young (7-3) takes on unbeaten top contender Clifford Starks (6-0). Young has been on a tear since joining Shark Fights, beating rising prospects Kyle Bracey (4-2) and Elvis Mutapcic (9-2). Starks has finished three of his fights by TKO all in the first round. “It doesn’t matter if he’s 6-0 or 0-6, he’s just another guy in for a bad night,” said Young. “Cliff’s a one dimensional fighter and I’m about to show him another dimension.”

The main card also features a pair of undefeated rising stars, Jared “Demon Eyes” Downing (7-0) and Jimmy “Rabbit” Jones (3-0). Shark Fights 20 will be the biggest test of Downing’s career as he takes on Bellator veteran Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (17-3). Karakhanyan has fought some of the best Featherweights in mixed martial arts such as Patricio “Pitbull” Freire, Joe Warren, and Bao Quach. Jones plans on continuing his undefeated streak against Casey Milliken (2-3). “This is one of the most stacked cards we’ve had at Shark Fights,” states Shark Fights executive Wes Nolen. “Every fight is evenly matched and there are no clear favorites. We are planning to give the MMA fans of Laughlin, Nevada a great show.”

Shark Fights 20 will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at The Edgewater Casino Resort in Laughlin, Nevada and will be broadcast via tape delay on FUEL TV beginning November 4, 2011.
